A couple months ago my wife of twenty-five years celebrated her 50th birthday - it was a day that I wanted to ensure that she would remember for the rest of her life and I think that I have been successful in achieving that goal. I was eager to buy her a present that was something special but that was also a little different from the normal type of thing - she would have probably expected me to have bought her diamond earings or some posh earings etc. That however would have been far too easy.
To be fair I had, for many weeks, absolutely no idea as to what to buy her and was asking around the other members of my family and also my circle of friends to see if they could provide me with any inspiration. This unfortunately did not provide me with the answers that I was looking for.
I then remembered a day out that we had enjoyed together some months before. We had spent the day shopping at one of those out of town shopping centres and at one stage we were looking round a furniture store. My wife - who is called Linda - had taken quite a shine to some of the bedroom furniture - namely the fitted wardrobes. These were not your average, run of the mill, fitted wardrobes - these were the bees knees with a price tag to match. It was one of those occasions when you agree with your wife that they are very nice and you then laugh at the price - I kind of joked saying something along the lines of "How the other half live hey". I then quickly ushered her away to another part of the shop to look at the light shades - if I remember rightly - something that was much more affordable.
Why not go back and buy the fitted wardrobes if they are still available I thought to myself? Now I was fully aware, of course, that they were very expensive but this is my wife we are talking about and this is her 50th birthday. This would also be the kind of wow present that I was looking for.
I duly popped back to the shop in question and bought the wardrobe. And how did Linda react when she found out what I had bought for her? She was over the moon to say the least - job done!
