I would imagine that I am not the only webmaster in the world who is trying to increase the page rank of their website. I have heard a number of comments recently where people in various forums have said things such as, page rank is dead and that it does not really matter what the page rank of your site is. This may well be correct, however I still believe in the basic principle of the higher your page rank is, the more traffic you are likely to gain. Nobody will ever be able to convince me that a site with a page rank of four gains more traffic than a site with a page rank of eight. In this article I am going to write about how webmasters can gain this higher page rank, advice which I use everyday myself and advice which has stood me in very good stead thus far. I just hope that Google do not suddenly decide to change the rules as it would mean that I would have to learn all over again.

The first important thing to mention is that content is king. If your content adds value to the people who visit the site, these visitors are likely to return, time and time again. They will also refer their friends to the site and this referral may come in the form of a link on their website to your site.

This link forms the basis of page rank. It is a widely recognised fact that the major search engines, including Google, take the number and quality of backward links that point to your site into consideration when deciding where to rank your site for each keyword in their results.

If you were able therefore to obtain a link on a page rank nine page, you will be doing very well for yourself and this link alone is likely to give your site a page rank of at least six.

To obtain links people write articles and submit them to some of the main article directories and also offer other webmasters in their industry link exchanges.

In conclusion ensure that your content is valuable to its reader and concentrate on link building especially with websites which have a high page rank.
